Thai Food

Dear readers, it is with fond memories of delightful food that I would like to ask you to accompany me on our last culinary excursion together. My personal journey will be taking me away from Harrisburg, to other far-away locales. So, as a parting gift, I offer you a peek at fine and delectable cuisine inside one of the areas best-kept secrets. Come with me and experience the luscious islands of Thailand through the aromas and tastes of Bangkok Wok.

First of all, I must admit to being a regular there. I have tried almost everything on the menu. The absolutely fresh ingredients, which are combined and spiced in the most delightful way, continually draw me back. Hopefully, you won't be put off by the names of the dishes, which contain words and sounds that sound strange in this region of the country.

The restaurant boasts of an enchanting oriental atmosphere. One step inside and you will see that this is no exaggeration. From the bicycle-driven Rickshaw resting in between the tables to the impeccable service, you are completely immersed in oriental culture. Rounding out the restaurant's authenticity is the fact that it is family owned and operated; run by Tauenta Martz the three master chefs are her sister and two brothers.

To start off your meal, you may want to try the Bangkok Wok Tray, an assortment of appetizers including Thai egg rolls, stuffed

About Bangkok Wok

We Serve Gourmet Thai Cuisine

Thai Cuisine is best defined as striking a delightful balance between East Indian and Chinese cuisine. Our dishes are seasoned with different types of soy seasonings, mushroom sauce, smoked chili, oyster sauce, and fish sauce, which all play an important role in Thai Cooking.

We have an array of curry dishes that are interplayed with coconut milk and Thai seasonings. We use all natural ingredients and do not use MSG, salt, or butter in our cooking.

Other spices that are used in some of our dishes are lemongrass, cilantro, kaffir-lime leaf, galangal, kra-chai, and the aromatic fresh Thai basil. all dishes with exception of rice and noodle dishes are served with a bowl of white Jasmine rice. Jasmine rice is a fine, long grain type, called "khao hom mali", so delicious that it can become a meal in itself. We use only the finest quality of meats, a wide variety of the freshest of vegetables, and fresh seafood, which ensures the quality of our dishes.

Thai food is known for being very hot or extremely hot. Although some Thai dishes are quite spicy, far more dishes are completely mild, and require no adjustment whatsoever. Most of the heat of the spicy dishes comes from red or green peppers, commonly referred to as chilies. We accommodate both spicy and mild palates. It is your preference! Our dishes are served family style, which means all entrees at your table are to be tasted by everyone.

Bangkok Walk exceptional.

Posted by Rundownfid on 7/22/2009

My wife and I have eaten at the Bangkok innumerable times in the past 15 years. The food is remarkably fresh and consistantly good. The waitstaff is friendly and I've noticed they do not turn over quickly as is the case with so many restruants. For appetizers I highly recommend the fried eggplant, Yum Neau ( a spicy beef salad that is extraordinary), and the Thai Slaw; for appetizers. During the season they have exceptionally good soft shell crabs. Their other sea food is also quite good as a rule, I particularly like the Pla Lad Prig sauce, but they are all fresh and spicy.. If you like your food hot and spicy I highly recommend the Green Curry with chicken. It is excellent, remarkably fresh vegetables cooked just enough with strips of chicken in a deligtfully exotic sauce.

Horribly Overrated

Posted by CSMobileUser2 on 4/16/2009

Bangkok Wok is the most overrated restaurant in the greater Harrisburg area. The squid salad special was extremely bland, Tom Yum Gai was nothing to brag about. The most heartbreaking was how badly spiced the beef with basil and chicken curry were. Would NOT recommend, go to the Thai Palace or the place off of Paxton St for enjoyable Thai.

Best Thai in pennsylvania

You won't be let down, it's mindblowing. Their masaman curry is the best I've ever had.

Good food, Bad service.

The food is very good, the service notsomuch. We ate there on a day they were hosting a gettogether, were given a table in the corner and given our check without being offered dessert (at which time we said that we did in fact want dessert). When we called for take out a few weeks later they said they only had 2 summer rolls left (even though the website linked says they make everything fresh). We called for takeout another time and they said they closed at 9 even though the website linked says they close at 10. Really the people there have just been quite rude every time we've attempted to eat there. I love Thai food and this was my favorite restaurant as a child but it has changed quite a bit over the years and it amazes me that they choose to treat their patrons the way that they do.

Best Thai in town

Bangkok Wok sits behind the Old County Buffet in Mechanicsburg and is the best Thai in town. You've got to try their Pad Thai (don't forget the chili sauce!) and anything with green curry.
